"If y'all accept been on the verge of becoming a millionaire and that has not happened considering of far-right force per unit area groups, and your work has been banned and taken apart, and you've been threatened with prosecution, and the law have advised people involved with your production to go into hiding, and bed and breakfasts won't have the cast to stay because they're blasphemers, and yous accept to cantankerous a BNP picket line to go to work in Plymouth, y'all do start to think, well, what tin can be worse than that?"
"It did make me feel there was not much point always trying to reach a mass audition with annihilation interesting and provocative. You only run the risk of being misunderstood…

Look, I accept never washed and will never exercise conflict resolution
Starting your opera with an explicitly transphobic joke is certainly a choice, just information technology works when you realise these people are not considered people to the bloodthirsty studio audience; these are pitiful, solitary people picked apart past vultures as their lives are torn asunder during international broadcast; detect how many homophobic slurs are yelled at the guests regardless of their identity. The studio audition existence conducted like an orchestra, contempt as symphony.
And as Jerry Springer, the false idol, is pulled down to Hell, nosotros come to realise the appeal of this detestable carnival; empathy equally futile transcendence. But it's not Jerry himself that is deserving; he just televises.…

This musical is nigh perfect. It pushes the envelope to become exactly the same as the original evidence, to the point of rather credible studio audition prejudice, non every bit offensive as information technology feels similar the exact, demeaning bear witness from 2005. The cast is brilliant. The supporting cast isn't bad neither, although they possibly don't participate as much on the original show. The music and songs is some of the best I've heard.

I Fifty<3ve Musicals!
This show has a lot more resonance these days with the Trump assistants in U.s. office and the rise of the extreme right-fly: it doesn't feel quite so shocking to encounter an human action ane finale starring the Ku Klux Klan as information technology might have done in the early on part of this century.
Comedian Stewart Lee and Richard Thomas created this opera, inspired by the reality evidence presented by former politician Jerry Springer, who was famously built-in in Highgate Tube Station, London, during an air raid. This was the beginning of many entertainment shows which thrived on the dregs of guild and their ridiculous situations (here exaggerated with the 'chick with a dick', the 'adult baby', and the…

unable to rate this.... the vision, the range, the premises (aka lack thereof)...... absolutely astronomical

A very, very odd musical. Some of it has aged very poorly (the trans woman grapheme) merely some of information technology is more relevant than ever. Even so, worth watching just to come across the KKK interruption out into a tap trip the light fantastic toe.
UPDATED: More than time has passed and I remember this far more fondly than when I first saw it. The songs are ear-wormy, the lyrics very clever and the overall message is a good 1. The mode in which the show portrays its message I think is very flawed in some areas (the portrayal of the trans woman yet just feels wrong and as if she's treated as a punchline), however in other areas it is incredibly effective (Jerry's ultimate conclusion and the entirety of Hell v. Sky is quiet clever). Time has been more kind to this than I previously idea.

Watching this recording of a single alive performance, I was initially disappointed and then pleasantly surprised. The offset deed is a simple satire of the Jerry Springer show in opera form and from what fiddling I've seen of the show information technology seemed pretty authentic. It's funny to watch an opera which is so very sweary and rude. But non that funny. I was rather bored — as I would exist if I had to lookout an episode of the original show. A bit disappointing given my high opinion of Stewart Lee.
Fortunately, it really picks up in the second one-half, in which the same actors every bit earlier enact a fantasy Jerry Springer show set in Hell, with Satan in charge…

A fascinating mid-00s curio. Information technology's opera's equivalent of Norwegian blackness metal, offensive to the LGBT+ customs and evangelical Christians in roughly equal measure out. When it's non into shock value and swearing for its own sake, information technology's sporadically brilliant and has frustrating potential to accept a deeper message than information technology has. It's utterly bizarre that this exists.
